Northampton Town participates in fundraising bike trip to Amsterdam
Northampton Town F.C. has put together a team of staff members and supporters to participate in Prostate Cancer UK’s Football to Amsterdam 2018 event on June 1-3. Team Cobblers, led by Northampton Town Chairman Kelvin Thomas, will be a part of a weekend-long bike trip to help raise money and awareness to beat prostate cancer, a disease that kills a man every 45 minutes.
This is the fifth time Northampton Town F.C. is taking part in the Football to Amsterdam fundraising event. Last June, Northampton Town staff members Julia Berrill, Jean Limpitlaw, Jason Burns and Paul Tyrrell successfully cycled from London to Amsterdam.
For this year’s event, the club has put a bigger Cobblers team together with 9 members, led by Chairman Kelvin Thomas. So far, Team Cobblers have already raised more than £8,700, reaching 87% of their fundraising target of £10,000. Visit this page to read their stories and sponsor the team.
Kelvin Thomas commented:
“It is something that I would have done last year but the EFL Conference happened to be the same time, so this year the timing is going to work out. The club team did a fantastic job raising funds for a very good cause last summer, so hopefully we can do as well this year.
“We were very proud of what those four members of staff achieved. They all said what a fantastic experience the event was, what a great spirit there was amongst the riders and how much they enjoyed it.
“We are really looking forward to this year’s event. Not only will it help us raise vital funds, but we should enjoy a fantastic few days with fellow football supporters.”
The Cobblers Chairman has also already raised more than £2,500 in sponsorship. You can sponsor Kelvin here.
Football to Amsterdam bike trip
Football to Amsterdam is an annual event organised by Prostate Cancer UK. The event aims to raise more awareness and more fund to fight against prostate cancer while giving an opportunity for like-minded people to meet.
Since 2013, this football-themed cycling challenge has been a remarkable success with millions of pounds raised and thousands of football supporters participated. In 2017, 380 football fans managed to raise £600,000. The money raised will help revolutionise the way prostate cancer is diagnosed and treated. It will also help provide support and information to those affected by the disease.
The 2018 ride will take place on Friday (June 1st) to Sunday (June 3rd), where hundreds of football fans from across the country will unite to cycle 145 miles over two days, finishing at Ajax’s Amsterdam ArenA, home of EFDN member AFC Ajax. For more information on the event, click here.
