No means No – Lecture at the FCSP Museum on Feminist Struggle Day
The 8th of March better known as International Women’s Day a day in which we highlight the importance of women in society a little more. FC St. Pauli created some amazing events related to this day, these events were organized at the FC St. Pauli Museum.
On 7th of March, the event series “Reading without Nuclear Power” with concert + cinema were presented at the Millerntor. On The 8th of March, Antje Grabenhost (Network against Sexism and Sexualized Violence in Football), together with Melli from AK Awareness, will provide information on dealing with sexualized violence in football and at FC St. Pauli. Admission to both events is free.
The topic on the 8th of March will be about female fans and ultras that are part of football. But sexism is still part of everyday life, as are cases of sexualized violence. Consequently, there are already concepts and contact points for those affected at some locations. Antje Grabenhorst will present the work of the network against sexism and sexualized violence in football and its handouts, as well as explain central terms and important steps in dealing with assaults.
Afterwards, Melli from AK Awareness St. Pauli will explain how the work on site at the Millerntor looks like and how it came about. The AK has been dealing with the topic since 2018 and supports affected people in the fan scene and beyond. The event is also explicitly aimed at male football fans and stadium visitors.
Again, on the 7th of March, the event series “Reading without Nuclear Power” were held at the FC St. Pauli Museum with Mal Élevé (Irie Révoltés), among others. In the evening, the artist duo “Générations sans frontières” (Thomas Walter and Mal Élevé – known from Irie Révoltés) and director Sobo Sowodnik presented the film “Gegen den Strom” (Against the Current) at the FC St. Pauli Museum – with live music by Mal Élevé.
The topic will be about three activists going underground in the 1990s. For the Federal Criminal Police Office, they are “terrorists” who wanted to blow up deportation prisons. The hunt is unsuccessful. 20 years later, the three resurface in Venezuela. To this day, there is no turning back. The soundtrack of the revolt, the artist duo “Générations sans frontières”, was created in exile and documented in the film “Against the Current”.
The event is part of the series “Reading without Nuclear Power”, which was founded in 2011 as a counter-event to the then “Vattenfall Reading Days”. At the time, the company that gave the event its name operated four reactors around Hamburg – and many authors and other cultural workers did not want to support greenwashing. The “Vattenfall Reading Days” no longer exist, but “Reading without Nuclear Power” is celebrating its tenth anniversary.
