Ngonge and Fadiga join in for ‘Health Scores!’

Last week saw Club Brugge first-team players Cyril Ngonge and Noah Fadige joining 140 school children from the 5th and 6th grade at the ‘Wonderwijs’ and ‘Zedelgem Dorp’ schools as part of the Club Brugge Foundation project Health Scores!. After a healthy breakfast at the Jan Breydel Stadium, the students signed a contract with the players making a promise to eat healthier, exercise regularly and certainly not to smoke.

After the breakfast and signing of the contracts on the first floor of the lodge building, the players were welcomed with loud applause. Four children were given the opportunity to ask them some questions related to the healthy lifestyle of the players. ”The chef prepares everything for us and he makes sure that we eat healthily. Very occasionally we eat something unhealthy, but it is very important to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Exercising enough is also a crucial aspect.” Says Noah Fadiga. Cyril Ngonge added to his teammate: ”make sure you have breakfast every day, eat lots of fruits and vegetables and drink plenty of water. Try to avoid unhealthy snacks and soft drinks!”.

In the next twenty weeks, the students will be followed up in various ways. The students receive health tips from players from Club Bruges via video messages. In addition, they are provided extra sports classes and sessions on health at school. Finally, Club Brugge sends fruit baskets to the various schools for all children.

The Club Brugge ‘Health Scores!’ project is part of EFDN’s ‘Scoring for Health’ programme which is a collaboration between 7 member clubs, Chelsea FC, FK Shakhtar Donetsk, Feyenoord, Legia Warsaw, Hapoel Tel Aviv, Brentford FC and Club Brugge. The UEFA Foundation for Children co-funded programme will run for 2½ years and aims to tackle the problem of childhood obesity in Europe by promoting a healthy diet and an active lifestyle to schoolchildren and their parents.  Read more about the programme here.
