NAC Maatschappelijk starts Football Memories project
Reliving football memories together. That is the essence of Football Memories. For the new project of EFDN member NAC Maatschappelijk, senior citizens will meet each other in the Rat Verlegh Stadium. During 90 minutes they will pick up memories from the rich football history of NAC Breda. They do this under the guidance of enthusiastic volunteers who like to talk about NAC.
It is the first project that is organised in collaboration with partners who actually bear responsibility for certain aspects. NAC Maatschappelijk is the project’s facilitator. Partners such as Surplus, Thuishulp Breda, Thebe, Home Instead Thuiszorg, Zorg voor Elkaar and Dementienetwerk Breda are responsible for recruiting participants. This means there is no free registration of participants, but they are carefully selected by our partners.
The volunteers are trained by Samen Dementie Vriendelijk (Alzheimer Nederland) and Beleef Dementie. Thanks to NHG Breda it is possible to organise the meetings in the Nassau Lounge of the Rat Verlegh Stadium.
Next half-year a pilot will be run with about 10 participants. If this goes well, this number will be increased from 2022 and surrounding municipalities will also be involved in the project. The first meeting will take place on Wednesday, September 1st, and subsequently, a meeting will be organised every fortnight until Wednesday, 22nd of December. Based on photos, newspapers, and other memorabilia, the discussions will be initiated. Football Memories is aimed at senior citizens, many of whom are housebound and have little or no social contact. This means that the dynamic of the participants consists mostly of people suffering from dementia, but also of seniors who, for other reasons, no longer have any social contact.
