N.E.C.to start with Para-team for 2019/20
N.E.C. Nijmegen will join forces with ‘Uniek sporten’ and ‘Sint Maartenskliniek’ to launch the N.E.C. ‘Para-team’. The three parties will start a team for amputees with the team being made up of 10 players who will also be active at the ‘Sint Maartenskliniek’ medical clinic.
The first phase starts in May at the ‘Sint Maartenskliniek’, where the participants start an eight-week rehabilitation program in preperation for joining the N.E.C. ‘Parateam’. The players will receive a wide variety of sports offered by specialists of the foundation ‘Koprol’. The participants will come to together every week to do sports and socialise.
According to Joyce Ott-Jansen, social worker of the ‘Sint Maartenskliniek’, the social aspect is just as important as the physical one with her stating that:
“sport is very important for your physical, emotional and mental well-being. The rehabilitation has more effect if the people enjoy the exercising and sports and participating in the society after the rehabilitation will be better when they are fit and vital. Another important part of sports is the social aspect. Unfortunately, we perceive that our patients with an amputation are often less involved with other people, than the N.E.C. ‘Parateam’ is of course a nice opportunity to get to learn new people, people who also understand what it is like to have an amputation.”
Glenda Jansen from ‘Uniek Sporten’ followed this up: “This initiative is innovative and shows that by working together we really can achieve something. Above all, The N.E.C. ‘Parateam’ fits perfectly with our objective to stimulate sports and exercise for people with a disability. From ‘Uniek Sporten’ region Nijmegen we happily contribute to this new team.”
“Completely in line with our vision to introduce N.E.C. FIT , we will introduce together with specialist from this expertise (amputations) the N.E.C. ‘Parateam’. The participants will not only become fitter, it also has an important social function. Come in contact with fellow sufferers speeds up the acceptation process of the disability and prevents social isolation. We are proud that we as the first club in the Netherlands can offer such a course.” Says Luc te Riele, manager of ‘N.E.C. Maatschappelijk’.
