N.E.C. Nijmegen starts ‘N.E.C United’ project

N.E.C. Nijmegen extended its range of social programmes by the new project ‘N.E.C. United’ targeting young people from the north of the city. Therefore, the N.E.C. Doelbewust Foundation cooperates with a local foundation and the municipality of Nijmegen.

The aim of the project is to increase the bond with the district and to develop the competencies of the selected young people. N.E.C. United participants receive two football training sessions per week, in which different skills are incorporated that belong to the life of a top athlete. This experience will take participants into their daily lives and the various social activities that they will carry out in the Nijmegen North district.

Participants sign a contract

The assistance of the young people started with the signing of a real contract in the press room of the Goffert stadium. The boys and girls between the ages of 10 and 14 have been selected by education and youth workers from the Nijmegen North district. The contracts were signed in the presence of N.E.C. general manager Wilco van Schaik. The contract signing symbolises the start of a new lifestyle that the participants will lead. For example, the contract states that the participants drink 

more water, eat fruit, being less active with their smartphone and that they comply with agreements. In addition to the children, the parents / carers also sign a contract, which states, among other things, that they will support the child in every way possible. 

Cooperation puts talents at the centre

The N.E.C. Doelbewust Foundation, Stichting Interlokaal & Tandem and Nijmegen municipality join forces and put together their facilities and experiences to put the young talents at the centre of the project. This is done through the involvement of important aspects of daily life such as healthy food, respect to each other, self-confidence and exercise. The training will be led by a pedagogical trainer. It is not the first time that the N.E.C. Doelbewust Foundation collaborates with both profit and non-profit organisations to make a difference in the life of our fans and inhabitants of Nijmegen and the region of Nijmegen.
