N.E.C. Doelbewust celebrates it’s 10th year anniversary
N.E.C. Nijmegen’s community foundation celebrates it’s 10 year anniversary. In August 2008, the ”Wij Staan Voor De Wijk” foundation was founded by N.E.C. Nijmegen football club, the municipality of Nijmegen, ROC Nijmegen, and the private companies Talis, Dar and Novio, to give back to the society of Nijmegen. Nowadays the foundation is better known as N.E.C. Doelbewust Foundation and after ten years they can look back with great pride on a more than a successful first decade. In the week of 10 September, the ten-year anniversary will be extensively celebrated through various activities.
On 10 September N.E.C. kicks-off the celebrations with a concert at the Open-air theatre ”De Goffert” by artist Iris Hond, who will give an exclusive performance for more than thousand civilians of Nijmegen who can use a helping hand. These people have been specially invited. Mr Brul, the council of Nijmegen, will open the week of celebrations.
Charity run
On Wednesday 12 September, the stadium of the club is the venue for the GoffertRun. During this event, people can run 1, 5 or 10 kilometres in an endurance race throughout the stadium of the club. With this recreational running event, the runners collect money for the community foundation of N.E.C. and the Radboud UMC Amalia Children hospital.
The participants pass by a number of special places inside the stadium, like the player’s entrance and the hallway to the first team changing room, and especially for this occasion, the participants are also allowed to walk on the grass. Last years edition was attended by 400 participants and the club expects an even higher number of people during this special celebration run.
Former programme participants get involved
The celebration week will end in style with the N.E.C. home match against young PSV on Friday 14 September. The match is entirely dedicated to N.E.C. Doelbewust, the player’s mascots will be current and former participants of several N.E.C. Community programmes. The first team will wear a one-time unique community shirt, which will be unveiled later.
During the half-time break, two N.E.C. Oldstars teams will play an exhibition match and a great number of former participants of the many community programmes which have been developed by N.E.C. Doelbewust during the last ten years are invited to attend the match.
