MORE THAN FOOTBALL AWARD 2023 LONGLIST: Stichting Willem II Betrokken – Rabo Willem II Foodtour

The European Football for Development Network (EFDN) is proud to present the Stichting Willem II Betrokken – Rabo Willem II Foodtour project, which has been selected for the longlist of the More Than Football Award 2023.

Stichting (foundation) Willem II Betrokken focuses its projects and activities on three pillars, participation, talent development and notedly positive health.

The Rabo Willem II Foodtour project is a complete interactive teaching package for groups of children around the age of 10–12 years old. This project includes bridge classes that focus on food and nutrition, where students dive into themes such as healthy eating, reading ingredient labels and sports nutrition. Each lesson deals with a current food or health topic, enabling the students to learn all about food and healthy eating in a fun way. During the Rabo Willem II Foodtour, students are taught different healthy food topics throughout nine lessons, during which students receive a vlog assignment from Willem II players. From these, three or four classes are invited to the Koning Willem II stadium for the ‘Food Clinic’ event, a sporty, educational and fun morning where they exercise together and have a healthy lunch. Finally, these classes visit a home match of Willem II where the winning vlog is shown on the scoreboards during the match.

MAIN PROJECT OBJECTIVES

  • Students learn to make healthy choices on their own
  • Students learn how to reduce food waste
  • Raising awareness about nutrition and a healthy lifestyle for elementary school children
