Montrose FC Community Trust celebrate their volunteers
Montrose FC Community Trust celebrated “Volunteers Week” shining a light on the work done by those the supported the charity during the current health crisis and launched a new citizenship challenge.
As COVID-19 hit Montrose, the community has not turned its shoulder. The locals have supported the work of Montrose FC by volunteering for each of their teams (Montrose Youth Football Club, Montrose Amateur Football Club, Montrose Ladies Football Club, Montrose Roselea JFC, Montrose Walking Football Club) or for Montrose FC Community Trust itself. If each of the volunteers were paid a living wage for the time they commit, it would cost, collectively, well in excess of £200,000.
Since the pandemic has made it impossible for the Trust to carry on its regular programmes, they focused their efforts on the COVID-19 Community Assist Scheme. This project aims to support those that are most negatively affected by the current public health crisis. Among the many services they offer, they have been delivering more than 300 hot meals each week, offering essential transport to those who need to reach medical facilities, or just calling to check-in on those who are living isolated.
Besides the Community Assist Scheme, the Trust has launched the Citizen Challenge. The charity is asking children and young people from the community to offer their assistance to someone else during this difficult time. This could mean washing the neighbour’s car, watering the plants, or taking out the dog, always respecting public health advice. The Trust will issue a citizen certificate to each participant.
