Mainz 05 donates money to support kid with cancer
During the recent Family Match Day at the stadium of 1. FSV Mainz 05 a raffle and a t-shirt distribution campaign were organised to fundraise money for social initiatives. Mainz 05 hilft, the charity association of the German club, now announced that it will use the money to support the cancer-affected kid Joaquin.
The nine-year-old Joaquin suffers from kidney cancer already since he is two years old. The young boy got a lot of different therapies which could not contain the disease. By rounding up the donations and spending in total 3,000 Euro, Mainz 05 supports the efforts of the family. The family of Joaquin, which is based in Mainz, tries to raise money for immunotherapy which will not be paid by the health insurance. With its donations Mainz 05 wants to contribute to the fight of the Joaquin’s family. Therefore, the charity association of the club put up donation boxes in the fan shop, at the fan meeting and in the stadium during the last match of the season against Werder Bremen.
More than one million euro donated
The financial support of the campaign from Joaquin is the latest of many donations from Mainz 05 hilft. It is a separated registered organisation, which aims at supporting people in need. The charity-club was founded in 2010. Since its foundation in 2010 until the end of 2016 Mainz 05 hilft received more than one million euro derived from donations. In accordance with the articles of the association, the club donated about one million euros to people in need and social organisations in Mainz or in a range of about 100 km. The charity association is one important part of the social engagement of the Bundesliga club. Furthermore, Mainz 05 addresses topics as the protection of the environment, the prevention of discrimination, social commitment, education, sports and health care by different projects.
