LOTS OF CHANGES AT INTER CAMPUS CAMBODIA
The Inter Campus delegation has returned from the mission in Cambodia. The project involved 180 boys and girls and aimed to support education in rural areas and organised previously non-existent recreational and sports activities. The initiative took place in the village of Roong, around 40km away from the capital Phnom Penh.
A lot has changed in Roong village. A secondary school is being built to hold all of the boys and girls there along with those from neighbouring villages in order to reduce the rate of non-attendance which is very widespread in rural areas. Along with the Inter Campus Cambodia Vitok team, the new coach will support the veteran Samrech and the advice provided from the Inter Campus coaches was immediately put into practice on the pitch. During the mission, a tournament for the children in their final year with Inter Campus was held along with the usual training sessions.
Before the project was set up, the children did not go to school because the journey was too long and dangerous. Instead, they were helping their families in the fields with all kind of work. Now, hundreds of them attend a primary and middle school built by Inter Campus’ Missione Possibile in their village. Inter Campus’ involvement in the project started in October 2011 as a way of allowing the children – who have little opportunity for recreation – to practice sporting activities that are both educational and fun. The local teachers receive regular educational and sports training.
Inter Campus would like to say thank you especially to Tin Tin and all of the staff at Missione Possibile who have allowed Inter Campus to work in this rural Cambodian village since 2011.
