LFP ORGANISES SECOND SUCCESSFUL CAREGIVERS’ TOURNAMENT

16 teams of carers took part in the second edition of the Carers’ Tournament organised by the LFP and the Fédération Hospitalière de France at Toulouse FC on Monday 12 June. FC Sochaux-Montbéliard came out on top against Stade Brestois 29 in a day of conviviality and solidarity.

Last September, during the 8th day of Ligue 1 Uber Eats and the 9th day of Ligue 2 BKT, the LFP, in partnership with the Fédération Hospitalière de France (FHF), organised the “Supporters des Soignants” operation. All the clubs and the LFP took the opportunity to show their support and thank the nursing staff in public hospitals for their daily efforts.

Every goal scored in Ligue 1 Uber Eats and Ligue 2 BKT raised €500 to finance the organisation of the second edition of the Tournoi des Soignants. With a total of 47 goals scored on this dedicated day, €23,500 was raised to pay for transport and accommodation for the participants.

Bringing together hospital teams from all over France, the Tournoi des Soignants was held on Monday 12 June at Toulouse FC’s training ground near the Stadium.

16 teams representing Ligue 1 Uber Eats clubs (AJ Auxerre, Stade Brestois 29, Olympique Lyonnais, Olympique de Marseille, Montpellier Hérault SC, OGC Nice, Stade de Reims, Stade Rennais FC, RC Strasbourg Alsace, Toulouse FC) and Ligue 2 BKT clubs (SC Bastia, FC Girondins de Bordeaux, FC Metz, Chamois Niortais FC, FC Sochaux-Montbéliard, Valenciennes FC) competed in an exceptional setting, enjoying a moment of sharing values of solidarity and fair play.

Nearly 200 players were welcomed to Toulouse by José Da Silva, Chairman of the Toulouse FC Association, Arnaud Robinet, Mayor of Reims, Vice-Chairman of the Grand Est Regional Council and Chairman of the Fédération Hospitalière de France, Michaël Delafosse, Mayor of Montpellier, Chairman of Montpellier Méditerranée Métropole and Chairman of the FHF Occitanie and Jean-François Lefebvre, Director General of the Toulouse University Hospital.

A minute’s silence was observed before the start of the tournament in tribute to Carène Mezino, a nurse at Reims University Hospital who died in May. Her colleagues and friends wore a black armband in her memory.

Arnaud Robinet and Michaël Delafosse gave the mock kick-off to the first two games of the tournament, which pitted Toulouse FC against SC Bastia and Stade de Reims against Valenciennes FC.

FC Sochaux-Montbéliard came out on top against Stade Brestois 29. Montpellier Hérault SC rounded off the podium at the Tournoi des Soignants 2023. The trophy was presented to the winners by former Toulouse FC player Fabien Barthez. The world champion also presented each of the participants with a medal.

The LFP would like to thank Toulouse FC for hosting the tournament, as well as all the Ligue 1 Uber Eats and Ligue 2 BKT clubs for donating their equipment to the participants. Along with the FHF and the Toulouse University Hospital for ensuring that the tournament ran smoothly. Additionally, the LFP would like to thank the Ligue Occitane and the referees who officiated during the tournament as well as Kipsta, for donating the balls that were used during the tournament and the cups and medals that were awarded to all the participants. Last, but not least, the LFP would like to thank Jean Resseguié, the voice of football on RMC, who hosted the tournament in a warm and friendly manner.
