LFC Foundation launches Female Empowerment and Allyship programme

As part of their Education and Skills offering, Liverpool FC Foundation has launched “We Empower” a programme that was created to support a culture in which children are safe, healthy, nurtured, active, responsible, respected, and included.

Through promoting equality in all areas, Liverpool FC will aim to tackle gender stereotyping and raise children’s understanding of the types of discrimination and prejudices females and minorities face. As a direct result, the club expects to see improved citizenship skills and aspirations in participants of the programme.

“It is never too early to question what is seen as ‘normal’ or what is traditionally expected of boys and girls in our society. Doing this education intervention in primary schools will help to protect children from the negative consequences of inequality and discrimination as they grow into adults.”

“Young females face several changes as they grow older and our secondary school mentoring programme will hopefully support targeted females to develop key life skills while developing confidence, and self-esteem and gaining a better understanding of themselves.”

Dave McParland, Department Manager of Education & Skills.

What does the new programme offer?

A Primary School 6-week classroom-based programme will be offered along with secondary sessions and 1-2-1 mentoring as well as group mentoring, depending on the needs of the participant. Furthermore, tournaments and festivals will be organised throughout the programme as well as a wide range of celebration events.

What can participants expect to learn in the sessions?

Participants will be able to learn what is female empowerment and male allyship and why is it important. The programme will teach the promotion of self-esteem and creating a positive image whilst learning about positive role models and how to become one. Partakers will also be able to learn about self isolation including bullying and friendship dynamics. Additionally they will be taught leadership skills, peer, media and self-imposed pressure.
