KAA Gent wins ECA Best CSR Programme 2018 award
The European Club Association (ECA) awarded KAA Gent’s ”Revitalising new Ghent” as Best Community Social Responsibility Programme of 2018. The winning programme of the EFDN member club was chosen out of eight shortlisted community engaged football clubs.
On the occasion of the 21st ECA’s General Assembly, ECA member clubs came together in Split, Croatia. The ECA Awards were first introduced in 2010 and are awarded every year. The ECA Awards aim at rewarding outstanding club performances, encouraging best practice and highlighting successful club management. The ECA Awards consist of the four categories: European Club of the Year, Best Sporting Progress, Woman’s Club Football Award and Best Community & Social Responsibility Programme.
Strengthening disadvantaged community
The Best Community & Social Responsibility Programme Award is awarded to an ECA member club with a club-driven CSR project, which can serve as best practice. The successful CSR programme ”Revitalising New Ghent” aims to strengthen the economically disadvantaged area surrounding the club’s stadium through investment in local organisations and social initiatives. At the core of the project is the development of a community centre, offering various sports and leisure activities, which remain ongoing throughout the year. Visit the KAA Gent Foundation section for more information.
The other shortlisted clubs were Apollon Limassol, Chelsea FC, FC Schalke04, Ferencvarosi TC, Feyenoord Rotterdam, Manchester City and Valerenga IF.
