KAA Gent action weekends ‘Fairplay on and by the pitch’

This weekend fair play will be present at all youth football games in Ghent. Parents are asked to support their kids in a positive way, while respecting the opposing team and the referee. The weekend of action is supported by a catchy campaign song and music video.

In September 2015 13 football clubs from Ghent signed the ‘Elk Talent Telt’ (‘Every Talent Matters’) charter. Along with ‘Voetbal in de Stad’, KAA Gent’s community foundation, they aim to create a pleasant football environment. Within the ‘Elk Talent Telt’ partnership a workgroup fair play was created. The fairplay action weekend ‘by the sidelines’ is the first result.

Sideline activities

Before every game a player or coach reads a letter to the parents and fans of the participating teams. Afterwards parents and fans can take this letter home. If someone can’t contain him- or herself and feels the urge to react to the referee or someone else, this person will receive a lollipop.

All games for youth categories U7 to U9 will be played without referee this weekend. This way the clubs want to increase the joy of playing for youth players, but also for coaches and fans. At the same time they share the responsibility of ensuring the game can be played properly.

Campaign song

Parents and children of 13 partner clubs made a campaign song and music video. The song and the music video were recorded in KAA Gent’s Ghelamco Arena, and can be found on KAA Gent’s website.

The action will be repeated in 3 times:
