International Women’s Day 2020

Today is International Women’s Day #IWD2020 and EFDN want to show our continued to support and celebrate women’s achievements, to raise awareness against bias and to take action for equality using the power of football this International Women’s Day.

This year’s theme for International Women’s Day (8 March) is, “I am Generation Equality: Realizing Women’s Rights”. The Generation Equality campaign aims to bring people together of every gender, age, ethnicity, race, religion and country, to drive actions and change for a gender-equal world we all deserve. 8 March, is a time to;

  • Challenge gender norms
  • Empower each other
  • Celebrate diversity
  • Break stereotypes
  • Reject the binary
  • Mobilize
  • Take action

EFDN 14TH MORETHANFOOTBAL CONFERENCE

At the upcoming 14th EFDN #Morethanfootball Conference in Breda, EFDN are proud to be hosting a Women’s Discussion Panel to discuss equality in football. Confirmed panellists include;

Jane Purdon, CEO of Women in Football- Jane, who has a track record at the highest level of football and sport, is the first-ever CEO of Women in Football, a role she started in December 2018. Jane qualified as a lawyer and in 2001 was appointed as Club Secretary and Solicitor at Sunderland AFC, the club’s first-ever in-house lawyer and one of the first in-house lawyers at any Premier League football club. In 2005, she joined the Premier League, where she enjoyed 10 eventful years, rising to become the Premier League’s Director of Governance.

Rachel Pavlou, National & International Women’s Football Development Manager at The English FA- Rachel Pavlou has over 28 years of sports development experience, particularly specialising in the last 21 years in the development of women’s football at The English Football Association. Rachel is currently the FA National & International Women’s Football Development Manager.

Nicole Allison, Owner of NA Sport- Having operated at the coalface of today’s business and organisational demands within the football industry, Nicole Allison has had extensive experience working with players, clubs and rights holders. Starting out as a player, then coach, Nicole moved into football business and over the last decade has managed sponsorship, media and fan experience research projects for Kantar Sport Intelligence and The English Football League as well as being the General Manager of Tottenham Hotspur Women, helping guide the club’s promotion to the FA WSL and achieve professional status.

Charlton Athletic Community Trust

As part of the clubs Women’s Day activities, CACT held a Girls’ Cup yesterday morning at the clubs Training Ground, with the winners being presented with their medals pitchside at The Valley before kick-off. The tournament involved a range of local schools that CACT works with. The two finalists then battled it out at half-time in a goalscoring challenge in front of the Covered End. Other activities included the chance to meet Charlton Athletic Women players at a signing session in the club shop and in the Family Activity Zone before the game. They also carried out a bucket collection for Charlton Athletic Women which took place before the game.

Getafe CF Foundation launches “Women and Leadership Forum”

Getafe CF hosted the first “Women and Leadership Forum”. This forum is one of the most remarkable projects coordinated by Getafe CF Foundation. The main goal of the forum is to raise awareness of gender equity and support the equality of opportunities in society. Furthermore, other objectives will be to support female entrepreneurship skills and provide the attendees with the appropriate training to broaden their horizons and promote their professional development as well as their own personal growth. In addition to this, the conferences also provide an outstanding opportunity to support women in the process of seeking for a job, to show the essential role women have not only in the society but also in the business sector nowadays and also as a place where women can share experiences as well as network with each other.

 

CHELSEA FOUNDATION – ‘INSPIRE TO EMPOWER’

At Chelsea Foundation, they believe that a comprehensive programme for female football is a vital component of the Foundation’s vision. From grass-roots level to the high performance of the FA Women’s Super League, the Foundation is creating new and exciting opportunities for girls and women to get involved with the game.

It is important we players help inspire the next generation. I was a kid once and I remember dreaming of being a professional so hopefully, one or two of the girls here can go and do the same with the help of our foundation coaches” Eniola Aluko.

This week Chelsea Football Club Foundation celebrated International Women’s Day hosting an ‘Inspire to Empower’ event at Stamford Bridge!

FC PYUNIK – PROMOTING WOMEN’S FOOTBALL

FC Pyunik launched a women’s team in 2019, to grow and develop women’s football in Armenia. By the end of May 2017, the ownership of the club was changed and the club has been actively engaged in community work with children since then. By launching the women’s team, FC Pyunik wants to promote the sport among girls and women, develop professional structures and contribute to gender equality.

OL FONDATION – SPORT DANS LA VILLE

As a founding partner of Sport dans la Ville, for the 2018/19 season, the OL Foundation chose to support the “StreetFootballWorld” tournament organised by the association for the FIFA Women’s World Cup France 2019, with the semifinals and final to take place at Lyon’s Groupama Stadium. This tournament will allow more than 350 young people from all over the world to promote women’s sport, gender equality and football values.
