Inter Campus participates in UN Event “Sport as a catalyst for building prosperous and resilient societies”
On January the 30th, Inter Campus participates as a panellist to the “Sport as a catalyst for building prosperous and resilient societies” event, organised by the Department of Economic and Social Affairs of the United Nations.
This opportunity follows the conference which took place in July 2016, at which FC Internazionale Milano was invited at the UN Headquarters. It was the first time in history that an entire football club entered the UN.
After 2012, 2014 and 2016, this is the fourth occasion that Inter Campus participates in a UN event in New York. This is a great honor for Inter Campus and an incentive to continue in their mission.
Host of the Conference is the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs – Division for Social Policy and Development. Inter Campus will be represented at the conference by Mr. Stefano Capellini, project manager and communications of the organisation.
The 56th Commission for Social Development will involve:
TOPIC: Sport as a catalyst for building resilient and prosperous societies
FORMAT: Moderated panel discussion followed by Q&A session
CONCEPT: With its depth, breadth and reach, sport has the unique ability to galvanise action for social inclusion and poverty eradication. Sport and the sport sector can create multidimensional social and economic impact that promotes the well-being of individuals and communities. At the individual and community levels sport and sporting activities provide platforms for psychosocial development, and for improving and maintaining healthy lifestyles. Sport and sporting activities can also promote infrastructural development, community pride and economic benefit. In some cases, stakeholders in the sport sector have drawn on locally available resources to scale up and expand on sport as an enterprise. In this context, public-private partnerships have a key role to play.
Exploring the critical role of public-private partnerships
This event will explore the critical role of public-private partnerships in effectively tapping the power of sport as a strong driver in building inclusive, accessible and resilient societies, and in implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
The expected outcome of this event is to strengthen partnerships between the public and private sectors in promoting the role of sport as a catalyst for achieving resilient and inclusive sustainable development and contributing to poverty eradication.
DISCUSSION QUESTIONS: What is the role of sport in promoting poverty eradication and building resilient societies? How can governments and other stakeholders leverage sport into a universal tool that contributes to social-economic well-being of communities and societies? What are best practices of public-private partnerships in leveraging the positive impact of sport?
