How EFDN members promote Youth Skills every day

On the 15th of July, we celebrate World Youth Skills Day. We want to highlight the work that EFDN members do on a daily basis to improve young people’s employability.

Our EFDN Youth Exchanges allow clubs, leagues and FA’s to provide groups of young people from different countries to meet, live together and work on shared projects for short periods. Youth Exchanges take place outside the conventional environment of the participants. At an EFDN Exchange programme, participants take part in activities such as workshops, exercises, debates, role-plays, outdoor activities and more, that work towards shared themes of objectives.

Besides taking part in the EFDN Youth Exchanges, our members carry out several projects focusing on equiping young people with life skills to enter the labour market. From coaching sessions to entrepreneurship workshops, football clubs understand the central role that skillful youth will play in the future of their local communities.

Here are some programmes from our members:

Liverpool FC Foundation – Onside

The Liverpool FC Foundation’s ‘Onside’ project is delivered by the Foundation mentors and coaches in both The De La Salle Academy in Croxteth and North Liverpool Academy in Anfield. The LFC Foundation staff use the power of the LFC badge to engage with students and provide them with key skills, confidence and the resilience needed to overcome obstacles and choose the right pathways in life.

Burnley FC – UCFB Burnley

UCFB Burnley is a unique working collaboration between Burnley FC in the Community, UCFB and Nelson and Colne College. Operated by Burnley FC in the Community, this three-way partnership offers a spectrum of further education opportunities to students including BTEC provision, apprenticeships, adult learning courses and employability workshops. Based in a footballing arena of aspiration, ambition and achievement, UCFB Burnley is a place to not only learn – but to be inspired.

NAC  Breda – Nobody Off Side

The ‘Nobody Offside‘ programme is organised by NAC Breda and the ATEA Group. This 3-months project offers job seekers the opportunity to gain work experience in the inspiring environment of the Rat Verlegh Stadium. During a course of three months, several candidates gain work experience in the facilities of NAC Breda.

FC Schalke 04 – Joblinge

Founded in 2007, Joblinge is a six-months on the job programme, in which the participants receive application training, learn about social skills and get the possibilities to receive an apprenticeship placement.
