Hibernian Community teams up with schools to improve health
Hibernian Community contributed in the last weeks to Health Weeks in Nursery, Primary and Secondary Schools across the City of Edinburgh. By using their knowledge and experiences coaches of Hibernian improved the health and well-being of young people.
The school partnership work of Hibernian covers a number of areas and the charity organisation of the Scottish Club endeavours to deliver a comprehensive football programme. The programmes link in with the Health & Well Being stage of Curriculum for Excellence and Scottish Government’s Active Scotland Outcomes. They also fit with national guidelines laid down by the Scottish FA on how to get the best from the young people taking part. The importance of regular exercise for young people is well known, as are the risks of childhood obesity so being able to offer these programmes brings obvious benefits.
Over 1,000 pupils active
The most recent exercise took place at the Niddrie Mills Primary Schools where the Community coach Sean Anderson delivered girls only football sessions as part of their Health Week. Before, the Nethercurrie Primary School was visited to encourage primary two and three children to become more active with an interest in the game. In total, Hibernian Community delivered its various programmes in the last weeks at 13 schools. Over 1,000 pupils of different age groups got active and over 70 hours of football programmes were delivered.
