Hibernian Project Wins Regional Scottish FA Award
Hibernian Community Foundation were yesterday announced as winner of the Scottish Football Association ‘Best Community Football For All Project’ award for the South East Region.
The award follows the introduction of ‘Hibs Class’ into schools across Edinburgh and East Lothian in January – March this year with further work taking place with school staff and pupils throughout lockdown to develop content and fill the gaps left by school closure.
Hibs Class is funded by Hibernian Community Foundation to provide local partner schools with a staff member one day a week to support pupils with classroom tasks and to work with small groups on an alternative curriculum using football themed tasks. Hibs Class works across key stage 1 and 2 to develop maths, literacy and health & wellbeing knowledge for pupils in primary 3-7.
In addition to classroom activity Hibernian Community Foundation Staff also deliver Score Goals – an after school programme which includes a football session, healthy living workshop and a healthy meal with friends. Hibernian Community Foundation have delivered Score Goals to over 70 school children this year in addition to another 250 children across Elphinstone Primary School, St Gabriel’s Primary School, Preston Tower Primary School and Hermitage Park Primary School.
Hibs Class Lead and Hibernian Community Foundation Development Manager Lewis Melee says: ‘‘I am delighted to see Hibs Class gain this award, we have been developing Hibs Class content and school relationships for some time now and we have really enjoyed supporting student development across our partner schools. We look forward to returning to schools to continue our delivery this academic year and to sharing more of our Hibs Class resources.’’
Hibs Class now moves forward into the Scottish Football Association category for national project of the year 2020.
