Game day in the name of climate protection
Nobody should seriously deny that VfL Wolfsburg is tackling the issue of climate protection. Not just since Green and White joined the “Race to Zero” and set a net zero target by 2025, the wolves have been continuously working on improving their own environmental balance. A particularly demanding area of work is mobility, after all, 60 percent of all CO2 emissions are caused by the fans traveling to and from the games. At this point, VfL is sending out a signal: both the home game of the Niko Kovac team against VfB Stuttgart on Saturday, October 1 (kick-off at 3:30 p.m.) in the Volkswagen Arena and the factory duel of the Wolves the day before at the AOK Stadion(kick-off at 7.16 p.m.) will be dedicated to climate protection and accompanied by special campaigns.
Alternatively, arrive and win
At the heart of the 2022 climate match day is a call to all fans to use a climate-friendly means of transport for both home games and to travel by bike, public transport or train. All Green-Whites who take part have the chance to win one of 4,000 instant prizes such as free tickets, shop vouchers and stadium tours, which will be handed out at various stations in the Allerpark. You can also take part in a big competition via a QR code on the back of the prize ticket. And that’s really big: For example, VIP tickets for DFB international matches for men and women, bicycles, e-boxes, fuel cards for car electricity, balloon rides, match worn jerseys and even meet and greets with players can be cleared away.
Match day mile, running bike course, bike check-up
For the game on Saturday against VfB Stuttgart, the spectators can expect a suitable supporting program with information and action stands on the topics of climate-friendly mobility and energy efficiency. For the little VfL fans there is a separate balance bike course. The VfL bike partner offers free bike check-ups. A VfL-owned and permanent additional repair station will also go into operation at the fan house. Not to be forgotten: 25 guarded and covered parking spaces for electric bikes will be installed at the AOK stadium. If there are goals on the pitch when the women play on Friday, the climate will benefit even more. As part of a league-wide campaign by the DFB, all participating clubs in the FLYERALARM Women’s Bundesliga will donate 100 euros for every goal they score on this match day, which will in turn benefit other climate protection projects.
