Fundación Levante Stands Against Bullying with Emotional Intelligence
On the 2nd of November, in recognition of the International Day of Violence and Bullying at School, Fundación Levante UD highlights the issue within educational institutions. In recent times, a distressing increase in incidents of bullying in schools has been witnessed, with severe consequences for children and adolescents worldwide. The Levante UD Foundation has recognized the pressing need to reinforce prevention efforts in this area, given the rising prevalence of bullying and its detrimental effects on young individuals.
The advent of technology and the omnipresence of electronic media have only exacerbated the issue. Young people are now interconnected 24/7, which significantly intensifies the impact of bullying on its victims.
To address this issue, the Levante Foundation, in collaboration with psychologist Enric Valls, has launched the “Roja al Bullying” project. Its mission is to complement existing anti-bullying protocols in schools with a preventative education program. These protocols primarily deal with existing cases of bullying but often overlook the crucial aspect of educating children and adolescents to prevent the problem at its root.
The project also highlights the need for assertive communication and emotional intelligence as essential skills for young individuals. Bullying can be reduced through persistent prevention efforts, but it is unlikely to ever completely disappear. Therefore, it is crucial to equip students with the ability to manage their emotions, express their needs, and address discomfort or distress respectfully.
The “Roja al Bullying” project, led by Enric Valls, provides valuable tools to aid in this effort. However, continuous reinforcement of these skills is necessary to ensure they are effectively integrated into the students’ daily lives.
Education, specifically the content of Educational Plans, plays a pivotal role in addressing the ongoing issue of school bullying. While prevention efforts targeting potential bullies are vital, emotional education should also be a fundamental part of the curriculum. This approach will not only empower potential victims but also provide them with essential tools for assertive communication.
As society grapples with the persistent problem of school bullying, the Levante Foundation’s initiative underscores the significance of emotional education in the school curriculum. It is a proactive step towards reducing the prevalence of bullying and its grave consequences. We must collectively acknowledge the importance of equipping our youth with the emotional intelligence and communication skills necessary to create a more empathetic and compassionate society.
