Fundação Benfica turns 10
We would like to take the opportunity to congratulate the Fundação Benfica (or Benfica Foundation), the community and social arm of SL Benfica, for reaching it’s 10th birthday on Sunday, having been founded on the 27th of January of 2009 which at that time, was recognised as the first foundation to be created within a Portuguese football club.
The mission of the Fundação Benfica remains as being to conceptualize, plan and implement projects dealing with social, educational, environmental and health issues as a way to contribute to the quality of life with a particular focus on children and young adults in high-risk social situations by promoting inclusive sports.
Since it’s inception the Foundation has reached 110,000 beneficiaries in over 9 counties, through their various projects. This includes projects such as the “Para ti Se não faltares!” aiming to tackle school dropout rates and improve overall school results and the KidFun project promoting important values like respect and responsibility in young people’s lives.
They have also made an important contribution in fundraising for humanitarian aid, organising the 7th Match Against Poverty in 2010 in partnership with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) helping the population of Haiti following the environmental catastrophe of the earthquake in 2010; and the Act Against Hunger in 2012 in partnership with The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and Fundação Luís Figo.
To celebrate the anniversary, they have shared the below video.
