Former PSV Player Harry Lubse enjoys Walking Football

As a little boy, Harry Lubse was already a big fan of PSV. When he started playing football at the age of thirteen, he dreamed of a place in the first men team. A wish came true. At the age of sixteen, Lubse was allowed to play in the B-team of the Eindhoven top club.

Lubse got a permanent place in the first team of PSV and played for ten seasons for the premier league club. In that time he won three national championships and twice won the KNVB Cup. He won the UEFA Cup in the 1977-1978 season. After leaving PSV, Lubse played for Helmond Sport and also became champion with that club (1981-1982). Lubse scored the decisive goal in the championship match. His most legendary moment for PSV was in the home match against FC Magdeburg in the battle for the UEFA Cup. PSV lost the first game with 1-0. In the return, the Germans had enough of the 3-2 score for the win. In the very last minute Harry Lubse shot full into the roof of the goal: 4-2. On to the semi-final. The stadium exploded.

Walking Football with the PSV OldStars

Today, the former football player is active as an ambassador for the PSV OldStars, one of the programmes of the PSV Foundation. The OldStars play ‘walking football’. Harry Lubse says: “It is important that elderly people do not sit on the couch. They must keep moving. You can of course go hiking or cycling and that is fine too. But playing a game in the ‘walking’ variant is so much more fun. Whether it is walking football, hockey or tennis; you discover once again how much fun it is to play a match, how nice it is to hit a ball well, how togetherness in the team grows.

The PSV OldStars train every Wednesday morning. According to the Atletic Skills Model, the muscles are trained and the balance improved. And of course the condition also improves if you exercise regularly. Harry Lubse: “Your responsiveness is also improving. If you miss out on a curb, it is easier to correct. You also get to know a lot of people. It is a bit like football on the street in the past. Who wants to participate, kicks a ball. Whether you are good or not. We sometimes look like a couple of enthusiastic kids! ”
