FOOTBALL MEMORIES SPREADING FESTIVE CHEER AT TYNECASTLE!
On Tuesday, December 11th, Big Hearts hosted a Festive Memories Lunch providing good food and company to older people at risk of social isolation.
Over 60 guests enjoyed a warm and friendly afternoon at Tynecastle Park with a free Christmas dinner served in one of the hospitality suites of the Stadium. Jim Mackintosh, Poet in residence at St Johnstone FC, delighted those in attendance with a selection of poems recalling fond memories associated with the beautiful game, and a tribute to Hearts’ Legend Willie ‘The King’ Bauld.
The event, which welcomed participants and volunteers from across Big Hearts’ Football Memories and Edinburgh Memories groups, marks the end of a record-breaking year where the charity’s free social groups for over 65s at risk of social isolation welcomed an average of 100 people on a monthly basis.
Big Hearts’ Festive Memories Lunch is part of the SPFL Trust ‘Festive Friends’ campaign across Scottish football clubs and is supported by Tesco ‘Bags of Help’ fund.
Craig Wilson, Big Hearts’ General Manager said:
“We know that Christmas time can be even more challenging for people who are already at risk of social isolation during the rest of the year, and particularly those aged over 65. Big Hearts’ Memories Lunch is about coming together through a shared passion – football and the good memories that come with it – and simply having a good time whilst enjoying a Christmas meal. We are delighted that our partners Tesco and the SPFL Trust recognised this by supporting the event.”
