First Show Racism the Red Card meeting at Stamford Bridge
On 3 and 4 September, EFDN and the project partners Brentford FC, Chelsea FC, Club Brugge, Ferencvárosi TC, Inter Milan, Rangers FC, SL Benfica, Werder Bremen and Show Racism the Red Card the Netherlands came together at Stamford Bridge for the 1st project meeting of the new EFDN Show Racism the Red Card programme.
Show Racism the Red Card (SRtRC) is a 24-month anti-racism and anti-discrimination programme which is based on the proven concept of the Red Card Campaign delivered in the UK, Ireland and the Netherlands. SRtRC utilises the high-profile status of football and football players to help tackle racism in society. The project aims to raise awareness of diversity, foster social cohesion, and reduce physical and verbal violence linked to racism.
Sharing ideas and knowledge
After a warm welcome from host Chelsea FC, our CEO Hubert Rovers gave an introduction about the Pan-European programme that aims to tackle racism and discrimination. The participating EFDN members were informed about their ongoing projects and campaigns. Afterwards, all attendees discussed the project coordination and shared first ideas for the project delivery. For the second day, our league partner Pro League joined the discussion. Together, the attendees collected ideas for the communication and dissemination of the project. EFDN and the clubs participate in the action weeks of our partner Fare network to send out a strong message against racism and discrimination. The clubs use the power of their brand and their media outreach to increase the impact of the campaign.
A holistic approach
“By just showing the Red Card we will not change the world. Therefore, we extend the proven concept and partner with schools and grassroots clubs”, said Hubert Rovers. EFDN is looking forward to the second project meeting taking place at Ibrox, the iconic home of Rangers FC in October.
