Feyenoord Rotterdam expands Schoolsport Plus programme
Feyenoord kicks off the new calendar year with some good news: with two new locations for the School Sport Plus programme, the club will be able to get hundreds of extra children in touch with the #PowerofFeyenoord on a daily basis.
Since last week, Feyenoord is active with the School Sport Plus programme at two new locations. From now on, social trainers and teachers will give daily lessons at the Rotterdam primary schools De Parel and De Hoeksteen. This means that Feyenoord now gets 1,500 children, spread over eight locations, moving every day with this project.
To mark the new partnership, the entrances to the schoolyards were decorated with a balloon arch in the Feyenoord colours. This of course was a double celebration, as the children finally returned to school after an extended holiday.
“We started the year well with this new cooperation with Feyenoord. During the breaks, our pupils can enjoy a healthy and sporty outdoor activity under the guidance of Feyenoord”
Joyce van der Mei, Deputy Director of De Parel Primary School
Patricia van der Knaap, assistant headmaster at De Hoeksteen, endorses these words. At De Hoeksteen too, they see the importance of exercise and attention to the social-emotional development of the children.
“That is why we are joining forces with Feyenoord and they are going to provide us with the physical activity during the breaks. With this we hope not only to get the children to exercise more, but also to teach them to play together, to deal with winning and losing and thus to increase their general wellbeing.”
Patricia van der Knaap, Assistant Headmaster at De Hoeksteen
About Schoolsport Plus
With Schoolsport Plus Feyenoord offers extra support and extra physical education at the Feyenoord Partner Schools. The ultimate goal: a school where sports, exercise and a healthy lifestyle play a central role in the educational programme. At Schoolsport Plus, sport is more than a goal in itself; it is a means to help children progress in different areas. After all, sufficient exercise improves concentration, motivation, fitness and thus school performance, while preventing obesity. In addition, a healthy lifestyle contributes to a better self-image, more self-confidence and has a positive effect on social behaviour.
