The charity match between Feyenoord and FC Dordrecht (2-0), played at De Kuip on Wednesday 22nd March, raised € 120,623.47!
On the same day, general manager Eric Gudde had the pleasure of handing over the cheque to the Erasmus MC-Sophia Childrens Hospital, which was amazed and grateful about the donation.
The Sophia Children will use the money to conduct further research in the field of sickle cell disease. The disease causes serious deterioration of the organs.
On behalf of the Sophia Children’s Hospital, pediatric hematologist Marjon Cnossen gratefully received the check. “We strive for further investigating how we can positively influence the progression of the get sickle cell disease for the patient and possibly even cure it in the future. Gene therapy and bone marrow transplantation play an important role. However, a lot of money is needed to conduct this sort of research. Therefore, we are delighted to receive this wonderful amount of money. We want to thank Feyenoord, FC Dordrecht and all the fans, who contributed and thereby support the cause. On the one hand of course I would like to express gratefulness on behalf of the Sophia Childrens Hospital and on the other hand on behalf of all families, who have to deal with this serious blood disease. ‘
Feyenoord supporters supported the charity in various ways. Through purchasing a ticket, by taking part in an SMS campaign and by buying a scarf in the Feyenoord Fanshop. Additionally, they made an auction of the special contest shirts for a tidy sum.
