Festive Friends Christmas Party!

Local senior citizens enjoyed a three-course meal at Ibrox, Christmas bingo, a performance from St Paul’s High School choir, a winter safety talk from firefighters based at Govan Fire Station and even the chance to meet Rangers FC legends Willie Henderson, Marvin Andrews and Gordon Durie at the Foundation’s recent Festive Friends event.

The party brought some Christmas cheer and companionship to those who need it most during the holiday season, with many older people at risk from social isolation.

“We come every year. I like the atmosphere, the service and the talent! I am going to be 90 on Christmas Day so it’s a good time to celebrate.”

Guest Thomasina Munro commented:

“We were delighted to welcome local senior citizens to Ibrox today for a lovely afternoon of food, fun and entertainment as part of the SPFL Trust’s Festive Friends initiative.

It’s been a difficult time for many older people with the cost-of-living crisis and worries about staying warm and paying heating bills, so it was great to see everyone happy and enjoying themselves today.”

We will also be delivering hampers with seasonal goodies, toiletries, gifts and games to some locals who couldn’t make it to the event.”

Rachael Cosgrove, Charity Executive for the Foundation

“Festive Friends is one of our biggest events at the SPFL Trust. It’s all about coming together to have a real impact on the lives of elderly and isolated people over the festive period – reaching more people than ever this year.

It’s the Christmas spirit in action as we see the power of football in spades – with clubs spreading cheer in their communities.”
