Ferencvaros’ walking footballers pay tribute to legends

After the medical assessment, the real professional work began at the start of the second season of Walking Football at Ferencvarosi TC. In the new season, the players will gather twice a week for training at Népliget, while the professional staff remains unchanged: Roland Horváth and Zoltán Ódor continue to lead the experienced players, who have been joined by two ladies in the new season.

In the first half of Tuesday’s practice, the team practised simple combative drills, followed by a game against each other, during which the resting team could practice their goal shooting. During the game, a lot of emphasis was placed on good footwork coordination, as the competitive spirit often led to stiff legs, with several players trying to gain an advantage. Although there were more stoppages than usual, by the end of the session most of the players had settled into the right rhythm.

On Thursday, the players gathered for another training session, and their determination was demonstrated by the fact that, despite the Hungarian-Serbian pre-season meeting – which started at the same time as the training session – they put on their training gear and headed for the artificial pitch at the back.

Thursday’s training sessions are ‘match days’ – while Tuesday’s sessions are about actual practice and not games – when the walking football team will play meetings, friendlies and hopefully, in time, matches. Prior to the practice, the team members received their new kits – the official jerseys of this year’s walking football team.

Afterwards, coach Roland Horváth divided the team into three teams: team Albert, team Fenyvesi and team Varga Zoli. The men and women moved well in the pleasant spring breeze, and the Fenyvesi team proved to be the best team.
