FC Groningen Oldstars and ZINN surprise the residents of Dilgt
FC Groningen in de Maatschappij Foundation together with ZINN, one of its programme partners for this season, focus on an exercise programme for seniors called ‘OldStars’. The first OldStars days have already taken place. A total of six ZINN locations are organising activities that focus on exercise, getting together and having fun. At the first meeting, in the De Dilgt residential location in Haren, a group of about 20 residents were invited to take part in the activities. Accompanied by FC Groningen, OldStars and ZINN staff, the afternoon was kicked off with a snack and a drink.
The FC Groningen OldStars who came along from FC Groningen told about their Walking Football experiences. These OldStars are true ambassadors of Walking Football. After all, more and better exercise is possible at any age.
After coffee, it was time for the OldStars to take a walk through the area around the residential location. While walking, great stories bubbled up about their time at Stadion Oosterpark; several residents grew up here or spent years in the stands.
It is important for seniors to keep moving, which is why the FC Groningen OldStars took the De Dilgt residents for a walk. Their visit – together with employees of FC Groningen Foundation in Society – made a big impression on the residents. A few even enjoyed the lovely walk in the fresh air, the sunshine and the sociability of the others with tears of happiness.
When the residents returned to the café of the residential location, a quiz was ready. The quiz contained 20 questions about the history of FC Groningen, ZINN and De Dilgt. Afterwards, the winners were rewarded with prizes; they received a ‘Word Groter-ball’. The social ball was launched by FC Groningen to get residents throughout the club’s catchment area moving.
