FC GRONINGEN GETS 700 CHILDREN MOVING WITH FOOTBALL CAMP

Schools have been opened for a week now and FC Groningen looks back on a great summer holiday. In six holiday weeks, the ‘Proud of the North’ organised the FC Groningen Football Camp in eight different locations. No fewer than 700 children trained, experienced a wonderful week of football and were encouraged to exercise more and better. Also during the school year, the club continues to inspire pupils to exercise.

Although training is the most important to the FC Groningen Football Camp and FC trainers do everything they can to make participants better, the event is much more than just football. Developing body movement, game enjoyment, supporter experience and the importance of healthy eating were given ample attention. A total of 3,800 minutes were trained, almost 5,000 pieces of fruit were eaten during the healthy sports lunches or snack moments, countless litres of water were drunk and every week there was a meet & greet at the stadium with players from the first selection.

“Although the weather was not that good most of the time, all boys and girls trained extremely hard and had a lot of football fun. As FC Groningen we aim to really teach the participants something, but it is also very important that everyone leaves every day with a smile. It is wonderful to see the pure joy of football in all those boys and girls and the pride with which they put on the FC logo every day. We have received many wonderful reactions from participants and parents. Besides enjoying playing sports together, many friendships have been made.”

Frank Wolters, programme coordinator at FC Groningen Soccer Camp

Now that schools have started again, FC Groningen is continuing to inspire young people to get moving. In addition to the various programmes of ‘Trainen als een Prof’, FC Groningen will also visit many primary schools this school year with the FC Groningen Scholentour. The Trots van het Noorden will take over a gym class and provide a teaching programme to get pupils structurally moving. In the National Sports Week, from 18 to 24 September, the club will also get more than 1,200 pupils moving across various sports fields in Groningen.
