FC Basel and University Hospital work together
FC Basel 1893 and the Swiss national team play around 25 home games in the St. Jakob-Park stadium each season. From now on, the University Hospital Basel will provide emergency medical care for these matches on behalf of the FCB.
The Euro match between Denmark and Finland showed that a medical emergency can occur at any time. Not only football players can be affected, but also other members of the team and football fans. In order to be prepared in such cases, the FCB has commissioned the Emergency Unit of the University Hospital Basel (USB) to provide a “Medical Team” from 22 July 2021. The team will provide emergency medical care for individuals during football matches at the Joggeli in close cooperation with the FCB team.
The medical team will include a trained emergency doctor, an emergency doctor in training and two nurses at each match. Emergency medical intervention may be necessary, for example, if a spectator falls on the stairs at half-time with a drink and sausage in his hand. The presence of a medical team can even mean the difference between life and death if the excitement during the game leads to a heart attack. Diagnostics and initial therapeutic measures are carried out by the team immediately on site, followed by the fastest possible transfer to the USB by ambulance.
FC Basel 1893 is very much looking forward to the support of the Basel University Hospital emergency medical team and at the same time hopes that it will be used as little as possible.
