Fairest Fanshop among German clubs: Two EFDN members among the top four

Once again this year, the non-profit organisation cum ratione took a closer look at the fan shops of the first and second league Bundesliga football clubs. The FC St. Pauli fanshop finished on first place and SV Werder Bremen are ranked 4th.

FC St. Pauli

Once again this year, the non-profit organisation took a closer look at the fan shops of the Bundesliga football clubs. The FC St. Pauli fanshop and product range were awarded the top ranking for being particularly fair. Last year, FCSP had already achieved a good fifth place.
In particular, the fact that the club launched its own sustainable team sports collection, DIIY, for the 2021/22 season, combined with its already strong commitment to sustainability, ensured the top ranking. The study also recognised the clear commitment to respecting human rights and environmental standards throughout the entire production process.

“We are of course delighted when our commitment to sustainability is noticed outside the St. Pauli cosmos. We have put a lot of energy into this topic and always have the claim that our products and working methods also stand up to objective criteria. So it’s all the nicer to get such great feedback as this.”

Bernd von Geldern, Business Manager Economy

SV Werder Bremen

After 72 points in the previous year, Werder improved to 84.20 out of 100 points and landed in a top position behind St. Pauli, VfB Stuttgart and Hamburger SV. The online shop was able to achieve the full number of points, and Werder even takes first place in the table in the communication category. SV Werder Bremen has one of the fairest and most sustainable fan shops of the 36 first and second division clubs in Germany. The Green-Whites are ranked 4th in a study by the non-profit society cum ratione. The “Grünzeug” logo, which Werder recently started using online to categorise all sustainably and fairly produced merchandise, was particularly highlighted.

“It is clear here that the idea of sustainability is firmly anchored in the club and is taken into account in all decisions. SV Werder Bremen was able to further refine its sustainability strategy. When it comes to fairness in the supply chain, the Bremen club has no need to hide from anyone,” was the verdict of the comprehensive study.

“It is a nice recognition of our work, but we are aware that there is always more that can be done. We work courageously every day on new ideas to further expand the idea of sustainability.”

Petra Stelljes, Managing Director of Werder Bremen Fan-Service GmbH

The new “green stuff” logo is carried by all green and white fan articles that are Fairtrade, GOTS and/or Green Button certified. Even some products that do not have one of these seals are labelled “Grünzeug” in the online shop (currently 87 items), as they make an important contribution to the topic of sustainability, for example through their material. These products are, for example, items that have been upcycled, made from recycled material or whose material comes from controlled organic cultivation.
