Everton FC Support City’s Fostering Campaign
The city council and the club joined forces to spread the word that more foster carers are needed in the city.
Carers and their foster children watched the game at Goodison Park on Saturday 10 March, spent time in the Fan Zone and got to go pitch-side to meet former players Ian Snodin and Graham Stuart.
In addition, a video of Everton legend Joe Royle encouraging fans to consider becoming foster carers was played to the close on 40,000 strong crowd.
Councillor Barry Kushner, Cabinet member for children’s services, said: “We need people with passion and commitment to make a difference to children’s lives. All you need is a spare room and the time to make the most of a rewarding opportunity.
“Extensive support and training is offered and we welcome carers who wish to transfer to the city council from independent fostering agencies (IFAs).
“Taking in someone else’s child is life changing, both for the foster carer and the young person.
“We are seeing increasing numbers of young people coming into care and need the help of the local community so that we can look after our own.
“I am delighted that Everton FC are supporting our efforts to encourage people to join with us to provide the best care we can for our city’s most vulnerable children and young people.”
Prof Denise Barrett-Baxendale, Deputy CEO, Everton FC and Liverpool City Council Foster Care Ambassador said: “It was a pleasure for us to support the city’s fostering campaign – using the platform of football to bring awareness to this crucial issue and hopefully encourage more people to become foster carers.“As ‘The Peoples Club’ we have an obligation to our local community and we will play our part to help ensure that every child in this city is cared for and has a place to rest their head at night within a loving family.”
Foster carers do not pay Council Tax and families also get free membership of the city’s Lifestyles Fitness Centres.
You need to be aged over 21, but there is no upper age limit and can be single, married or co-habiting, straight or gay.
