European Week of Sport on its way
On Friday the 23rd of September, the European Week of Sport was kicked off in Prague. The European Week of Sport promotes more active, healthier lifestyles to millions of people in Europe and beyond. This week exists to improve awareness of the importance an active lifestyle has for everyone. With this year’s imagery, we want to express that sport supports a better future for the youth, promotes inclusion and equality, and helps people reach a healthier lifestyle.
CEO of EFDN, Hubert Rovers, was present on Friday in Prague to help kick start this week. He met Ignazio Cocchiere of the Sport Unit of the European Commission. The programme this weekend consisted of:
- 22 September:
- Presidency conference on Sustainable and Accessible Sports Infrastructure
- HealthyLifestyle4All seminar
- Gala Dinner
- 23 September:
- HealtyLifestyle4All Youth Lab results and Pledges ceremony
- Official Opening of the European Week of Sport
The European Week of Sport continues throughout this week until the 30th of September, so, whatever your age, body type, or fitness level: whether you felt isolated in lockdown, or feel the need to express yourself through sport, this week is one to get active in, tell your friends and most of all, get ready, set and go!
For seven years, the European Week of Sport has helped tackle the inactivity crisis by encouraging Europeans to embrace a healthy and active lifestyle. Launched in 2015, the European Week of Sport was created in response to the worsening inactivity crisis. Despite sport and physical activity substantially contributing to the well-being of European citizens, the level of physical activity is currently stagnating and even declining in some countries.
We invite all EFDN members to support the European Week of Sport and organise (special) physical activities to promote a healthy lifestyle! Please share these activities by using the following #BeActive and #EuropeanWeekofSport in your communications.
