A Real Success Story
Mark Peel Story
“A life changing experience, Positive Goals made me feel comfortable and at ease from the minute I engaged with them,” Mark Peel said of our six-week employability programme.
Prior to engaging with Morton in the Community, Mark had been unemployed for six month. He was feeling low in confidence and would often feel nervous about attending the job centre to sign on.
His job centre adviser had suggested that he could go along to an information session about our Positive Goals programme, delivered in partnership with Jobcentre Plus, and from there Mark then attended on a one-to-one basis before starting the programme in full.
As a lifelong Greenock Morton fan, he believes that being involved with the club he supports helped ease his anxiety and even had him looking forward to attending a training program that would have caused him to feel nervous otherwise.
Upon attending, he enjoyed the environment that was created as it was not a traditional classroom setting and, overall, felt that the experience helped improve his confidence.
His is a real success story – Mark went on to land himself an interview for a kitchen assistant job with Balclutha Care Home in Greenock and managed to secure the job. He is now three months into his employment there, relishes going to work every day and continues to grow in confidence.
A thrilled Mark told MortonCommunity.net: “The Positive Goals program was a life-changing experience for me.”
Head chef James Sweeney added: “Mark came along for the interview and showed great enthusiasm for the role and we have not looked back since. He is a pleasure to have in and around kitchen and care home – both staff and residents love him!”
