Emmen G-Football Players Kick Off New Year at PEC Zwolle

On Saturday 7 January, the FC Emmen G-football team, which plays in the Special Eredivisie, played in an indoor football tournament in Zwolle. During the tournament, which was organised by PEC Zwolle, FC Emmen played a total of five matches and there were also other fun activities on the programme.

The G-football team had to get up early, as the first match was scheduled at the WRZV hall in Zwolle at 9 am. Under the watchful eye of family and friends, FC Emmen enthusiastically started their first match against FC Groningen. It soon became clear that FC Emmen were not quite awake yet, as within a few minutes there was a 0-2 deficit on the scoreboard. Then the team from Emmen recovered and managed to score the goal to trigger a comeback. This was not enough and so the first match ended in a 1-2 defeat.

In the second match, Go Ahead Eagles was the opponent. A team that, like FC Emmen and FC Groningen, plays in the Special Eredivisie and so both teams know each other well. However, it was Go Ahead Eagles that showed they can play pretty good indoor football. Soon the team from Deventer took a comfortable lead that was extended to a 0-4 victory. FC Emmen thus lost their second game as well and had to step up their game in the remaining matches.

The match against PEC Zwolle was next on the programme. After two losses, the team of trainers Jan Dijkgraaf and Gert Willems was keen to get a result. It was an exciting match against an equal opponent. Unfortunately, the teams failed to score and so the match ended as it started: 0-0.

With the draw against PEC Zwolle, FC Emmen took the first point at this tournament. Against the Swolse Tigers, another three points were to be added. The Emmen players again faced a difficult opponent, but this time they managed to find the goal! The match ended in a 2-1 victory and so the first three points was a fact.

The last match was against Swolse Wolves. FC Emmen’s trainers decided to make a tactical change. Goalkeeper Wes Veenstra swapped his goalkeeping gloves for a spot in the striker’s box. It turned out to be a golden intervention, as Wes contributed to the 6-1 victory over Swolse Wolves with a fine goal.

With seven points, the Emmeners ended up finishing a handsome third and took home a beautiful cup. The players enjoyed another successful tournament. Another round of the Special Eredivisie is scheduled for early March. Then the layers will travel to FC Groningen.
