EITC introduces New Blue Base Pantry to tackle Food Insecurity
Everton in the Community has launched a new member-run food pantry to provide individuals and families living in L4 access to a wide range of top-quality goods in return of a small subscription fee.
‘The Blue Base Pantry’, aptly named due to its location on the car park of the charity’s site on Salop Street opened its doors last month and is Everton’s latest campaign to tackle food insecurity in the Merseyside region.
The initiative follows on from the Club and charity’s Blue Family campaign which provided support to over 29,000 people during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The pantry will offer supplementary shopping for families who may feel more dignified using the service as opposed to a foodbank with affordable produce available which maintains the shopping experience.
With the effects of the pandemic, and the rise of the cost of living continuing to take its toll on families, as well as access to discounted food, the pantry will also provide wrap-around support for communities. Advice and guidance on benefits, welfare and housing support will be available to members, whilst a registered GP will also be on site to answer any health enquiries alongside a host of wellbeing activities.
