Eintracht Frankfurt’s anti-semitism and racism campaign ‘Pay Attention. Be Alert!’
Under the motto ”Pay Attention. Be alert! – Eintracht Frankfurt against anti-semitism and racism”, Eintracht Frankfurt reaffirmed the club’s stance against hatred of Jews and racist exclusion of any kind last Saturday, 9 December, before the match against FC Bayern Munich.
The duels between the Eintracht and Bayern Munich are full of history. The first final match took place almost 100 years ago in 1932. Bayern won 2:0 and became German champions. Because of their close ties to the Jewish community in the cities, both SGE and Bayern were popularly regarded as “Jewish clubs” at the time. In these days of increasing anti-Semitic incidents, Eintracht Frankfurt would like to send a signal of solidarity.
Holocaust survivor Helmut ‘Sonny’ Sonneberg, who died in February at the age of 91, repeatedly and urgently warned people against marginalisation: ‘Pay attention. Be alert’.
”His words should be an incentive for us all to resolutely defend ourselves as a club and as a society against anti-Semitism and racism.”
Axel Hellmann, Spokesman of the Executive Board of Eintracht Frankfurt Fußball AG
The protection of Jewish life is a core responsibility of Eintracht Frankfurt. Helmut Sonneberg’s message was visible at Deutsche Bank Park last Saturday before the match against FC Bayern Munich. Benny Graumann, Chairman of the Jewish Community of Frankfurt, and Philipp Reschke, Member of the Executive Board of Eintracht Frankfurt Fußball AG, were guests in the Forest Stand in front of the museum. The Eintracht Frankfurt Museum will also took part in the chain of lights organised by the cultural scene on the banks of the Main in Frankfurt last Sunday under the motto “Never again is now”.
