EFDN welcomes Újpest FC to the network!
EFDN is happy to announce that Újpest FC has joined the Network. The club was founded on 16th June 1885 by school teacher János Goll in Újpest, a separate city in those times, just next to the borders of Budapest, the capital city of Hungary, under the name Újpesti Torna Egylet (Újpesti TE).
It was formed first as a general athletic club, performing gymnastics and fencing, and their motto was “Soundness, Strength, Harmony” (Hungarian: Épség, Erő, Egyetértés). In 1899 a football club was formed in the city of Újpest under the name Újpesti FC and with the same colors: purple and white. They would like to base their social responsibility program on their motto also.
You can discover some of their CSR programmes below:
Their online running competition called “Purple-White Movember” was held for the second time this year. Within the framework of the competition, they are trying to draw attention to the importance of prostate cancer prevention and a healthy lifestyle. Within the running competition, the runners have already accumulated thousands of kilometers, after which they also receive valuable prizes. During the time of the project, they provide free PSA test for visitors to our matches. They plan to organize this project year to year.
Furthermore, the club is in contact with disadvantaged rural football clubs. They regularly support the children who play sports there with organized trips to watch our prominent domestic matches for free. In the last few years we supported these kids also with more than 600 jerseys and T-shirts, 300 shorts, 80 pair of socks, 150 sweatshirts, 100 sweatpants, 80 wind jackets and 30 jackets.
By joining EFDN, Újpest FC wants to further develop their community-building projects. They would like Újpest FC to be in the first division not only in terms of football, but also in terms of social responsibility.
Hubert Rovers, CEO of EFDN: “It is a pleasure to welcome Újpest FC to the network. It is exciting to welcome a second Hungarian club to the network. It is promising to see how keen Újpest FC is in terms of setting up more activities for their community and how keen they are to learn from other members of the network. We are proud that they are joining our community.”
