EFDN participated in NOVIS training session in Bucharest

From 30 May to 1 June, EFDN attended a training programme for coaches who are currently involved in the No Violence in Sports (NOVIS) programme. This project aims to prevent and fight against incidents of violence, racism and any form of intolerance in sports.

The objective of the training programme in Bucharest was to get the coaches of all partner organisations familiar with the goals, target groups and the activities that will be organised within the NOVIS programme. The programme was led by the main coordinator of the project CGFS, the Italian Youth Centre for Physical Training. The training programme is a part of the Erasmus Sports funded ‘NOVIS programme which is partially based on the ‘IO TIFO Positivo” programme which operated in Italy. The NOVIS project takes advantage of this programme and uses it’s ‘’The Path’’ method to deliver the programme in 7 different countries. The project core activities will be the Sports Educational Camps for young people in all partner countries. The Sports e-camps consists of a mix of activities such as lessons and workshops on sport, non-formal education, creative working groups, games and sporting activities. In total, more than 3,900 young girls and boys will be directly involved in the project activities and more than 100 sports clubs, grass-roots sport associations, and schools will be involved in the Sport Educational Camps.

Creative learning and collection of best practices

During the first two days, the training focused on simulation and imagination. By imagining to be a child or a parent in the programme, the coaches were able to learn from a different perspective what the needs of the participants are and how they think about violence in sport. Representatives of CGFS showed the coaches examples of video methods and other tools to introduce this topic to children as well as to parents. At the end, the leaders of the training also told the coaches how to approach the children and the parents and what to be aware of when they are talking to them.

The second day started with a warm-up session by playing some energisers at the gym. These activities, addressing topics like team building, social inclusion and creativity provided some good examples that the coaches can benefit from. The coaches also got familiar with exercises that support the delivery of the main objectives of the programme. The coaches were challenged to develop or come up with new innovative exercises by themselves that will be shared on the online platform of the NOVIS programme.
