EFDN members stand together to support the Black Lives Matter movement and #BlackoutTuesday
Blackout Tuesday is an initiative that urges society to go silent on social media and reflect on the tragic recent events in the USA. Together, standing in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement. Several of our member clubs and the football community have supported this movement, to make a stance against racism in football and the wider society!
The idea of the campaign is to fill social media including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram with black squares, freeing up the time that is usually spent on social media to encourage society to educate themselves on the Black Lives Matter movement.
The organisers behind the start of the campaign said that they wanted Tuesday to be “a day to disconnect from work and reconnect with our community” through this “urgent step of action to provoke accountability and change”.
Below, we’ve shared some examples of how the EFDN, some of our members and the football community are all supporting the Black Lives Matter movement and the #BlackoutTuesday initiative:
Show Racism the Red Card Europe

The project aims to raise awareness of diversity, foster social cohesion, and reduce physical and verbal violence linked to racism.
The main objectives of Show Racism the Red Card are to:
- Raise awareness of diversity
- Foster tolerance and social cohesion
- Reduce physical and verbal violence linked to racism
- Make society aware of the negative impact of racism on individuals
- Produce European media campaigns and engage with multiplier clubs/ sport organisations
