EFDN and Special Olympics discuss new opportunities

EFDN and Special Olympics Europe Eurasia met in the EFDN office in Breda and discussed new opportunities to further develop their partnership.

About one year after signing a partnership agreement in Prague both organisations came together for a follow-up meeting. Together we want to create more opportunities for people with a disability in Europe to participate and engage with their football club and in their community. Several EFDN members like More than Football Award winner Shakthar Social offers already training sessions and event for young people with mental disabilities in their grassroots development programmes.

Special Olympics Europe Eurasia will support EFDN and our members to set up new programmes for people with intellectual disabilities. Football is one of the most popular sports for Special Olympics athletes across Europe Eurasia. There are more than 140,000 registered players and coaches involved in the game across the 58 countries in Western Europe, Central and Eastern Europe and Central Asia. The development of women’s football is also a big priority for Special Olympics.

EFDN is looking forward to meeting representatives of Special Olympics at our 14th EFDN “#Morethanfootball” Conference in Breda on the 24th & 25th of March 2020. The programme includes, for example, presentations and roundtables on disability football and a panel discussion on women’s football development.
