Big Hearts Community Trust Dementia Awareness Week 2024

During the Dementia Awareness Week, Big Hearts Community Trust shines a spotlight on the charity’s ever-growing reminiscence group Big Hearts Memories. 50% of Big Hearts Memories’ participants have a diagnosis of dementia, cognitive impairment and/or memory loss and their carers have seen a significant improvement in their wellbeing through improved social connections made through attending our sessions.

Since 2018, Big Hearts Memories has been facilitated by a fantastic team of trained volunteers and has welcomed hundreds of people living with dementia, stroke survivors, care homes patients and over 65s at high risk of loneliness, to Tynecastle Park each month.

“Attending Memories makes you realise you are not alone and suffering but there are many more friends who are experiencing the same. Big Hearts rekindles the person I used to know. For the time spent at Tynecastle Park, I can see signs and traits of the pre-dementia days, of the person I loved and cherished. It lets Johnny be himself!”
