Dementia Awareness Week | D in the Park
The first ever D in the park took place at Westburn park last week in line with Dementia Awareness Week.
The idea was initiated through a meeting with Alzheimer’s Scotland, Aberdeen Health and Social Care Partnership, Sport Aberdeen and Aberdeen FC Community Trust.
The day began with a quick cuppa before taking part in a fun filled day of activities. The first option was between a relaxed Qi Gong class or a short health walk followed by a creative idea session in which there was challenges such as who can build the highest tower out of marshmallows and spaghetti, or create the most unusual animal, with the winners being awarded a medal which was worn proudly for the rest of the day.
This was then followed by a movie reminiscence session before breaking for lunch which was supplied by Marks and Spencer and a visit from Angus, Donny and Buddy.
The final session was split beginning with a few games of boccia followed by a 1940’s dance workshop lead by Citymoves.
There were lots of happy faces and many of the participants finding new activities to attend regularly.
