De Graafschap, Pim & Rein and KiKa fight childhood cancer

The Dutch schoolboys Pim and Rein, in collaboration with EFDN member De Graafschap and KiKa (Dutch: Stichting Kinderen Kankervrij; English: Children Cancer-free Foundation, a Dutch charity foundation that brings in fundings solely for research to childhood cancers) challenge all primary school pupils in their region of the Achterhoek to participate in the special Short Trousers Action. The aim of the action is to draw attention to and raise money for research into childhood cancer.

“We are very committed to KiKa,” says Michael Ogubai, manager of CSR at De Graafschap. “KiKa is not only on our home shirt this season, but we also want to contribute to research into childhood cancer. This is why we had a unique action in mind: an appeal to all supporters and sponsors of De Graafschap to come in short trousers for the KiKa Short Trousers Campaign at the home match against Helmond Sport on 10 December and to order a KiKa Christmas cap. The KiKa Short Trousers Campaign is inspired by the story of the Achterhoek boys Pim and Rein. We have now come up with something new, namely a regional primary school challenge!”

Pim says that when his friend Rein fell ill last year and suddenly stopped coming to school, he wanted to do something that would still make him come to mind every day. “So I went to school in the cold in my shorts. The school of Pim and Rein decided to join in too. And in the last week before the Christmas holidays all pupils and teachers of primary school, De Zonneboom from Doetinchem went to school in shorts. In doing so, they collected no less than € 14,110.00 for research into childhood cancer.

Fortunately, it is now going very well with Rein. And that is why Rein, together with Pim, will be in action for KiKa this year! From 20 to 24 December, they will pull their shorts out of the closet again. To draw attention to and raise money for children with cancer. Pim and Rein call on all children in the Netherlands to join them this year! Everyone who raises € 100.00 or more in sponsorship money, will receive the special KiKa Christmas hat as a gift!

Together with Pim and Rein, De Graafschap challenges all schools in the Achterhoek to participate in KiKa Kortebroek. The school that raises the most money will be allowed to go to a home match of De Graafschap in the new year with the whole school. Everyone is invited to share their outfit on social media on the 23rd of December with the donation link to their campaign page and the hashtag #kikakortebroek.
