Sigurdsson And Zouma Help Children Go Global

Icelandic midfielder Sigurdsson, French defender Zouma and Polish keeper Hewelt worked with the youngsters in three small groups and, as well as talking to them about normal life back in their home nations, they also had the opportunity to introduce some traditional food and drinks from their respective countries and helped identify where in the world their Toffees teammates were born.

Iceland’s record goalscorer Sigurdsson said: “It was nice to see the children and I hope they enjoyed the lesson. It was good to teach them about different countries and languages and it was a different session to one we have done before. Hopefully, we helped to give the kids a day they will never forget.”

EitC Primary School Coordinator, Olivia Cardwell, added: “Football in education is pivotal with a lot of children, particularly in Liverpool where we live in such a football-mad city. Any opportunity we get to bring football into the classroom always benefits us because we capture the imagination of the children straight away. Bringing the players into the lesson was priceless and the children loved having the opportunity to meet them.”

The Aintree-based primary school is one of EiTC’s Premier League Primary Stars schools and sees the charity deliver a wide range of sessions to engage and inspire children across Merseyside.

Funded by the Premier League, the programme is delivered throughout the Premier League and provides opportunities for children aged 4-11 to access fun, high-quality sport sessions in schools.  During the 2017-18 season, EiTC delivered the Premier League Primary Stars programme in more than 40 schools across Merseyside, engaging almost 1,300 children.
