Burnley FC in the Community support Syrian refugees
To celebrate Refugee Week, Burnley FC in the Community teamed up with Burnley Pendle Rossendale Council for Voluntary Service (CVS) and Woman’s Voice to hold ‘A Taste of Syria’ event at Burnley Community Kitchen.
At the event, food was provided by Woman’s Voice and prepared in the teaching kitchen at Burnley Community Kitchen by Syrian refugees who have recently settled into Burnley. The refugees are being supported by CVS who aim to help refugees integrate into the community here in Burnley. The ‘A Taste of Syria’ offered the perfect opportunity to raise awareness and funds to support the families as they arrange social integration experiences to further their understanding of British culture and values. On the day, the delicious food was a big success with many people including Julie Cooper MP.
Free football sessions for young men
Burnley FC in the Community is committed to supporting refugees integrate into the community of East Lancashire. The charity delivers the Clarets Welcome programme, offering free football sessions at The Leisure Box in Brierfield to young men who have settled in Burnley and East Lancashire after becoming displaced from Syria due to the ongoing conflict there. The programme offers the men the chance to develop skills, meet up socially and most importantly, enjoy football in a welcoming environment.
