Blues Amputees Clinch Double

ThAmputees 750e Everton Amputee football team followed up their Takeda Cup victory at the end of last season by securing their first silverware of the new season when they lifted the EAFA Pre-Season Cup on Saturday 29 October at Manchester City’s impressive CFA facility.

The annual tournament aims to prepare all eight of EAFA’s Irwin Mitchell National League teams ahead of the 16/17 season openers next month and saw the eight participating teams split into two groups where Everton FC Amputees faced UL Sport FC Amputees, Scottish newcomers Partick Thistle FC Amputees and Portsmouth FC Amputees.

The games were all shortened in times to increase the intensity of the fixtures with the ability on show second to none and the pre-season cup was the most competitive one to date.

The Blues beat both UL Sport FC Amputees and Partick Thistle FC Amputees 1-0 and 5-0 respectively and, thanks to a last minute equaliser in the game against Portsmouth, drew 1-1 against the team from the South coast to see Everton top their group to progress to the final.

The final saw Everton Amputees take on last year’s league winners Peterborough in a close game which saw Peterbrough take an early lead through Mike MasterAmputees 470s before veteran, and EitC Disability Manager, Steve Johnson linked up with Dave Tweed to smash the ball into the top of the net for the equaliser.

The game finished 1-1 and went straight to penalties in a tense shoot-out which saw both teams have penalties saved before Adrian Fish calmly stepped up to score the winning  penalty for Everton amid wild celebrations.
